Welcome to Catalyst Counselling

Hi,  my name is Jacquelyn Bownes and I am an experienced,  BACP Accredited  Counsellor & Psychotherapist & an award winning Coach.

Sometimes, you  may feel unable to talk to friends, family  or colleagues about how you’re feeling for fear of not being listened to, being judged or perhaps burdening them somehow.   It may be that you’re looking for help to make sense of what is going/has gone on for you, and  needing some support in addressing your concerns and/or bringing about change.

I provide a safe, non judgemental space for you to share and talk through your concerns, whatever they may be, and work alongside you on how you might move forward and improve your sense of well being.     People come to counselling with me for many reasons & our work together can help you to:

  • Learn more about yourself
  • Make sense of your thoughts and feelings
  • Release some of the pressure you may have been experiencing
  • Develop as a person
  • Learn how to take control of your life
  • Respond to challenges and change more healthily
  • Identify and make changes, if you decide they are needed and you feel ready to do so

My Counselling Approach

I adopt a Person Centred approach to underpin all my work, which means that you, and our relationship together, is at the heart of the therapeutic process. So, rather than directing or telling you how to run your life, I will sit alongside you and support you to explore, make sense of and move on from whatever it is that has prompted you to seek counselling, for yourself.

I offer clients a warm, relaxed and confidential space to be heard, make sense of where they are, think and see things from a different perspective and enable ‘stuck’ clients to move forward.

I am also trained in  a range of other therapeutic approaches and frameworks including CBT, Transactional Analysis and Emotional Intelligence and can draw upon these according to the unique needs of each individual client.

As a trained Couples Counsellor, I utilise these frameworks to work alongside people exploring together  the challenges and/or uncertainties in their relationships, to support them to gain better understanding and be able to move to a healthier place.

I am committed to my own ongoing development as a practitioner, which includes engaging with regular supervision for my work in line with BACP requirements.

As an experienced coach, many of my clients choose, when they are ready, to move on to coaching after a period of counselling, to consolidate their learning with more pragmatic support and challenge to set goals and make desired changes in their life and career.

I work with both Individuals and Couples and offer both short and long term counselling appointments at two practice locations across the NorthWest:

    • Ramsbottom, Bury, BL0
    • City Centre, Manchester, M1

Appointments are available Mon – Fri   8am -8pm

Counselling sessions are typically an hour and are held weekly, although some clients prefer longer sessions and 90 mins sessions (held weekly or occasionally fortnightly) are available to accommodate this.

The Start of the Process

Long waiting times for counselling appointments can be difficult and distressing.  I aim to respond quickly to all enquiries (usually within 24hrs) and offer an initial appointment usually within the week.   In the first instance, I invite clients for an Initial Free 20 Minute by phone, to discuss how we might work together.   Clients can contact me by leaving a message on my confidential voicemail Tel: 07527 568563 or by completing the online contact form.
